By bicycle from Villach to Finkenstein am Faaker See

This relaxed cycling route starts in Villach, a laid-back Austrian town known for its pretty old town and vibrant café culture along the Drau river. From here, you’ll pedal south for about 9 km towards Finkenstein am Faaker See, a peaceful spot just west of the brilliant turquoise Faaker See lake and crowned by the old Finkenstein Castle ruins.

You’ll roll mostly along designated cycleways (over two-thirds of the route!), with smooth paved surfaces all the way—no need to worry about bumpy trails. The ride has gentle ups and downs, with a total climb of about 110 meters, perfect for a comfortable pace. Most of your journey takes you through quiet roads and scenic surroundings, with just tiny stretches on busier roads.

Approaching Finkenstein am Faaker See, you’ll catch glimpses of the Karawanks mountains and that famous Carinthian lake, perfect for a refreshing cool-down. Whether you’re exploring local sights or aiming for a lakeside dip, this route is a leisurely way to connect two of Carinthia’s gems.
