By bicycle from Bonn to Troisdorf

Here’s a great ride if you want to explore the Rhine Valley, starting in Bonn and rolling north to Troisdorf—a town famous for its castle and the Siegauen nature reserve. You’ll cover about 13.6 kilometers, so it’s a nice not-too-long journey that’s doable for any cyclist.

Setting off from Bonn, the former capital of West Germany and birthplace of Beethoven, you’ll weave your way out of the city mostly on paved paths and quiet roads. As you leave the bustle behind, you’ll pass through stretches of green, with a decent portion (almost 30%) on gravel—so wider tires can be a plus! The route is pretty flat with just a couple of gentle climbs and drops, so it feels breezy.

Troisdorf itself makes a relaxed finish: grab a coffee, stroll through the pedestrian area, or check out Burg Wissem’s sculpture park right in town. This ride is a super way to get to know some of the lesser-traveled pockets between two interesting Rhineland cities!
