Bikepacking from Taoyuan to Yilan

This is a seriously epic ride from Taoyuan all the way to Yilan! You’ll start out in Taoyuan, a buzzing city just south of Taipei known for its international airport and delicious street eats. The route covers about 160 km, so it’s a real day-long or even overnight adventure—perfect for strong riders who love dramatic scenery and big climbs.

You’ll experience over 4000 meters of ascent, topping out near 900 meters above sea level, so get ready for some tough but rewarding uphill stretches. The route uses a mix of cycleways, quiet roads, and some lovely winding paths—meaning you’ll enjoy both smooth sections and some more rugged, natural stretches (watch for missing or unpaved surfaces in parts).

Rolling into Yilan is a treat: think hot springs, laid-back vibes, and cool Pacific breezes. It’s famous for its night markets and lush, green mountains.
