Cycling day trip from Gabrovo to Shipka

Get ready for a proper mountain adventure! This route takes you from the lively town of Gabrovo, known for its quirky sense of humor and the House of Humour and Satire, all the way to the historic village of Shipka—famous for the stunning Shipka Memorial and panoramic Balkan views.

It’s about 39 kilometers, but don’t be fooled by the distance: you’ll be tackling over 1,600 meters of climbing! Expect a true off-the-beaten-path experience, with lots of gravel, some ground, and mostly rugged tracks (bring your mountain bike and an adventurous spirit). Only a small part is on asphalt, so be ready for dust, rocks, and maybe even a splash of mud.

The ride winds through thick forests, past remote villages, and up toward high mountain meadows. As you reach Shipka, take a breather and soak in the atmosphere—this place is steeped in Bulgarian history.
