Cycling day trip from Elin Pelin to Sofia

This ride takes you from the small but lively town of Elin Pelin, nestled just outside Sofia, all the way into Bulgaria’s bustling capital. Covering about 36 km, you’ll ride mostly on quiet roads and a mix of surfaces — expect plenty of asphalt, but also keep your eyes peeled for occasional paving stones and cobblestone stretches, which add a bit of local charm.

The elevation gain is pretty gentle, so it’s suitable for most riders. You’ll leave behind the relaxed atmosphere of Elin Pelin (famous for its folklore festival and proximity to nature) and gradually make your way toward Sofia’s vibrant city center.
