Carcere Spagnolo "Sa Bovida" Heritage museum Sa Bovida is an ancient and massive construction of the seventeenth century located in Aritzo, a town in Sardinia, in the province of Nuoro. The building, until the 1940s, was used as a royal maximum security prison. In 1793 some French officers were held prisoner there, captured during a landing attempt by Napoleon. The building, built with schist stone, mud and chestnut wood, is characterized by a pointed underpass, of Spanish origin, called "sa bovida" (the vault). The interiors, completely renovated, include four rooms that were formerly used as a surveillance post and as female and male cells. One of these rooms is devoid of any opening to the walls, so much so that a door has been added that allows its use. In the inner courtyard there is an ancient sundial. Ticket cost 2 €, it's worth it
