About this route

0

The route begins at the access barrier to the Case Pirao (forest houses in the territory of Randazzo). Through a dirt forest road, one walks towards Monte Spagnolo.

About a kilometer after Case Pirao, you go right, towards a beautiful chestnut and oak forest. You will cross the two fronts of the lava flows from 1981 that threatened the town of Randazzo for seven days.

After the lava flows from 1981, the ascent to Monte Spagnolo at an altitude of 1,440 m begins. Here, you need to leave the main road and climb among the living lava flows of Monte Spagnolo. Upon reaching the summit, you can admire a lava flow channel, its small cave, and other eruptive vents nearby.

After this visit, you continue toward the refuge of Monte Spagnolo, where you can take a break before continuing the crossing of the lavas and the eruptive vents from 1981.

Exiting the lunar landscape of the lavas from 1981, you descend on the Altomontana path, towards the Rifugio Saletti, and then back to the starting point.
