Via Virgiliana is a faster route than the bike path along the Burana canal, due to the poor conditions of the pavement in the latter (which is charming but uncomfortable to ride, due to poor maintenance) - though often it is narrow and cars go fast.  Better to ride on a week end, with limited commercial traffic.
