Excursion à vélo d’une journée de Otočac à Gospić

Roll out from Otočac, a small Lika town wrapped around the crystal-clear Gacka River (famous for trout and karst springs), and head south toward Gospić. It’s about 61 km with roughly 900 m of climbing, mostly on forest and farm tracks, with some quiet roads linking it all together. Think gravel/MTB-friendly rather than slick road tires—only a fraction is asphalt, and services can be sparse between settlements.

The route undulates across the Lika plateau, weaving through pine and beech forests with big-sky views toward the Velebit range. Expect a few punchy climbs and fast, rolling descents, topping out around 755 m. Keep an eye out for wildlife and bring plenty of water and snacks.

You’ll finish in Gospić, the administrative heart of Lika and gateway to Smiljan, birthplace of Nikola Tesla (the Tesla Memorial Center is just nearby). A hearty local meal here is well-earned after a day on Lika’s quiet backroads.
