Castiadas–Burcei MTB (Sardinia)

A rugged MTB link from the coastal plains around Castiadas up into the Sette Fratelli mountains and the hill town of Burcei. Expect steady climbs on forest roads, rocky stretches, and shady pine and cork oak, with big views toward Costa Rei and the Gulf of Cagliari. Rideable on a hardtail or full-sus; e-MTB friendly. Surfaces swing from packed dirt to rough rock, and some clay gets slick after rain.

You can ride it either way. Starting in Castiadas means a solid uphill grind and a rewarding finish in Burcei; reversing it gives a fast, chunky descent toward the coast. This is classic Sardinia backcountry, so services between towns are scarce—top up water and snacks before you leave. Spring and autumn are the sweet spots for temps; summer heat bites. Watch for park gates and local access signs, and keep an eye out for Sardinian deer and wild boar. Phone signal can be patchy in the forest.
