Plateau de Sault à vélo

The Plateau of Sault

Plateau de Sault à vélo

A cycling tour with 2 stages, starting in Sault, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, France.

Overview

About this tour

Start and finish in Sault, in the heart of Provence. This route takes you riding on the plateau, mainly on paved roads, between quiet small roads and some busier sections. The atmosphere is typical: lavender fields in summer, perched villages, and beautiful views towards Ventoux.

It's pure tarmac: road tires are fine. The terrain is quite rolling, perfect for chaining kilometres without seeking high mountains. Stay alert on busier sections and ride in single file on the main roads.

Practical tips: prefer early morning or late afternoon (best light, less heat and traffic). In June–July, the blooming is magical, but there may be more cars; off-season is very quiet. The Mistral wind can blow strongly on the plateau, so think of a windbreaker. Little shade and few water points: bring something to stay hydrated.

Before leaving or on return, stop for coffee or bakery in Sault. A lovely way to discover Provence by bike, between open landscapes and easy-to-read roads.
