London Cycle Network Route 71: Richmond to Earlsfield

A handy cross–South West London link, LCN 71 runs from Richmond’s riverside town to Earlsfield through a mix of quiet back streets, signed cycleways, and a few park paths. It’s mostly smooth tarmac with a couple of short gravel or compacted-earth bits around green spaces, so any hybrid or road bike will be fine. The route is gently rolling with no big climbs.

Expect a relaxed, local feel: leafy neighborhoods, commons, and the odd stretch where you’ll share space with pedestrians. Wayfinding is via London Cycle Network signs/markings; keep an eye out at junctions where the route hops between side roads. There are a few brief links on busier roads—lights help—then you’re back onto calmer streets.

Good for everyday rides and commuting, with easy connections to other London cycleways and Thames-side options if you want to detour. Works well in either direction. Pack lights for the shaded sections and peak-hour visibility, and you’re set for a smooth roll across SW London.
