Overview

About this collection

A green, mostly traffic‑free ride following the River Rea through south Birmingham. This collection strings together the classic park‑to‑park sections, linking the city centre with Cannon Hill Park, Selly Park, Stirchley, and down toward Kings Norton.

It’s flat, easy to follow, and great for everyday spins, family rides, or a chilled commute. Expect a mix of smooth tarmac and the odd short gravel patch—fine for hybrids and most road bikes. You’ll ride through leafy corridors, pass play areas and ponds, and might spot herons or kingfishers if you’re lucky.

There are plenty of places to pause: park cafés, Stirchley’s bakeries and breweries, or canalside detours if you want to explore more of the city’s network. Many stretches are shared with walkers, so keep it friendly and steady, especially on narrow bits and near playgrounds. Underpasses can be dim—bike lights help—and puddles pop up after rain.

If you’re new to Birmingham by bike, this is one of the easiest ways to get a feel for the city’s green spaces while staying away from busy roads. Simple, scenic, and super handy for everyday riding.
