Basauri–Atxuri Cycle Route

Easy city spin from Basauri to Atxuri in Bilbao. It’s mostly flat and follows the Ibaizabal/Nerbioi river and city bike lanes, so it’s friendly for everyday riders and a solid commuter link too. Expect a mix of paved riverside paths and quiet streets, with the red bidegorri lanes guiding a lot of the way.

Highlights on the way: river views, street art around Bolueta, and a smooth roll into Bilbao’s old town area. Finish near Atxuri, a historic neighborhood by the San Antón bridge and La Ribera Market—perfect spot for a coffee or pintxo.

Good both directions, and easy to extend: continue into Casco Viejo’s narrow streets or push on toward Abandoibarra and the Guggenheim if you want extra miles. Metro Bilbao stations in Basauri and along the route make one‑way rides simple (check bike hours).

Tips: go easy on shared sections, especially near the market; weekends can be busy. If you’re new to the area, just keep the river on your side and follow bike signs toward Bilbao/Atxuri.
