Rice Lake Ramble
Rice Lake Ramble
A collection of 2 cycling routes.
Overview
About this collection
A chill set of road loops circling Rice Lake with plenty of lakeside views, rolling farmland, and forest stretches. Expect mostly smooth pavement with a few short unpaved bits, plus a mix of quiet backroads and some busier connectors. It’s hillier than it looks—short, punchy climbs and fun descents—so you can make it an easy spin or a solid workout depending on the loop you pick.
Start from any lakeside town, park, or pull-off and ride clockwise or counterclockwise—both work. Longer options stack up real elevation, while shorter out-and-backs get you to the water fast. Road bikes are perfect; slightly wider tires (28 mm+) make the odd rough patch a non-issue.
Tips: go earlier or on weekdays for lighter traffic, use lights through shaded stretches, and watch for narrow shoulders near the lake. Bring water and a snack—services can be spaced out between clusters of cottages and cafés. However you ride it, the views and quiet sections make this a go-to loop around the lake.
