Greenway of the Der Lake and Saint-Dizier
Lac du Der–Saint-Dizier Greenway
A collection of 2 cycling routes.
Overview
About this collection
Paved greenways linking Lac du Der with Saint-Dizier, mostly traffic-free and super easy to follow. Expect long stretches of smooth asphalt with just a few short connectors on quiet roads. Terrain is basically flat with gentle rolls along the dikes, so it’s great for families, touring bikes, e-bikes, and even skates on the lake sections.
The ride serves up big lake views, marinas, forest edges, and bird hides. Lac du Der is one of Europe’s largest artificial lakes—prime birdwatching, especially for migrating cranes in autumn. You can spin a short out-and-back, piece together a longer loop around parts of the lake, or link in/out via Saint-Dizier.
Good to know: wind can be lively on the dike, shade is limited, and there are occasional road crossings near villages. Cafés and ice-cream stops pop up around the marinas in season. Wayfinding is generally clear (Voie Verte signs), and surfaces are mostly asphalt with the odd bridge and path section.
Pick a start point that suits you—Saint-Dizier or any lakeside access—and ride as much or as little as you like.
