Navigli Canal Cycle Route (PCIR 9)

A collection of 2 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A classic ride along Milan’s historic canals, PCIR 9 strings together long canal-side paths with quiet streets and a few pedestrian zones. It’s mostly smooth going on paved cycleways, with some stretches of paving stones and the odd cobbled patch. You’ll also hit short gravel or loose sections, so wider tires are comfy but not essential.

Expect an easy, mostly flat roll thanks to the canal banks, with little ups and downs at bridges and locks. The route feels safe for most riders: lots of dedicated cycleway, very little busy road. It works for commuting, a relaxed weekend spin, or sightseeing around the Navigli area.

Highlights? Water views, old canal works, and plenty of café stops along the way. Watch for pedestrians in popular sections and mind the surfaces where it switches from asphalt to stones or gravel. Signposted as PCIR 9, it’s straightforward to follow and a solid pick if you want a scenic, car‑light ride in the Milan area.
