German Fehn Cycle Route

A relaxed ride through East Frisia’s canal country between Filsum and Apen. The Fehn landscape is all about historic peat canals, little brick bridges, white drawbridges, windmills, and plenty of water views. Terrain is flat and surfaces are mostly paved—expect long path sections with some paving stones in village centers, a few quiet-road links, and only brief bits of busier traffic. Great for touring bikes and easy-going days; the North Sea breeze can be the main challenge.

Highlights on this stretch: waterside scenery near Filsum, moorland vibes, and café stops in Apen. Watch for pedestrians around canal promenades and in pedestrian areas, and roll easy over the paving stones. If you’re chaining together more of the Fehn route across Lower Saxony, this makes a mellow, scenic connector; as a standalone ride, it’s a simple taste of classic Ostfriesland.
