Outer Green Ring
Äußerer Grüner Ring
A cycling tour with 2 stages, starting in Zwochau, Saxony, Germany.
Overview
About this tour
Large loop tour around Leipzig's green belt, start/finish in Zwochau. Mostly quiet on side roads, paths and bike lanes, with long paved sections. Plus a few gravel sections and some cobblestones – ideal for trekking or gravel bikes.
About 133 km with around 360 m elevation gain: flat, easy rolling, but a decent day tour. You ride through fields, villages and past the Neuseenland, with many possible entry points along the route. Surfaces: predominantly paved, plus about 14 km gravel and short sections of cobbles and natural soil.
Best time: spring to autumn. Along the way, there are places to stop in villages, and lakeside spots for breaks. Watch out for changing path types (quiet roads, paths, tracks) and a few busy stretches. The start is flexible – here, Zwochau is fixed.
