Cycling in Samaná

3-hour MTB route. All dirt road. Good, steady climb for one hour,abit rocky in places near the top. The descent into La Laguna is too steep and too rocky to stay on the bike.

As an alternative you can obviously start in El Limon. That way you first do the climb to Juana Vicenta. Total 2 1/2 hours for the round trip. Dirt from turn off at Clinic Juana Vicenta. Track reaches Orange cell mast. After that single trail. 100 m or so after mast turn left. Technical downhill. In places too rocky or too steep to stay on bike. After El Limon reservoir easy ride into El Limon. </div>

2 1/2 hour. At end of wider trail technical downhill to river. Carry bike 20 minutes up to spur to meet the trail to Palmarito. From Palmarito very pleasant non-technical downhill to Agua Sabrosa. Work needs doing on the technical downhill section to clear some rocks and drain some sections. Signage imporant.

4 hour route, only last section on asphalt. Fantastic views. At one point view of Rincon/Las Galeras at same time of Atlantic at El Valle beach and of the Bay of Samana. The steep section dropping down to La Laguna is too eroded and rocky to allow rider to stay on bike. This section needs work to make it possible to downhill on bike. Recommend direction from Rincon to Samana as the very steep downhill would be very tough to climb carrying a bike from La Laguna up the slopes of loma Pan de Azucar To get to Rincon, either bike it, or put the bike on a guaga from Samana.
