Cycling day trip from Fengyuan to Puli

Starting your ride in Fengyuan, a bustling district in the north of Taichung known for its lively night market and rich agricultural heritage, you’ll wind your way south into the heart of Central Taiwan. The route to Puli isn’t for the faint of heart — you’ll climb almost 2,000 meters, topping out at around 1,058 meters in elevation, so expect some leg-burning action as you pedal through lush valleys and over ridgelines.

Most of the journey is delightfully peaceful: about 42% is on quiet roads, and nearly a third on access roads and dedicated cycleways. The scenery gets more rural and rugged, with only occasional stretches on busier roads. As you get closer to Puli, nestled in a stunning basin surrounded by mountains, reward yourself with a local specialty like handmade Shaoxing wine or a visit to the famous Chung Tai Chan Monastery.
