Cycling day trip from Hsinchu to Taipei

This ride takes you from Hsinchu, Taiwan’s “Windy City” (famous for its tech industry and old temples), all the way north to vibrant Taipei. It’s a pretty epic route—about 115 km—so it’s perfect if you’re up for a full day’s adventure.

You’ll start cruising out of Hsinchu, weaving through quiet roads and plenty of dedicated cycleways. There’s a mix of countryside and suburban scenery, with a steady climb here and there (almost 1,000 meters of total ascent, peaking just under 400 meters). Most of the route is either paved or asphalt, so it’s friendly for road or hybrid bikes. Plus, cycleways make up nearly half the ride, so you can relax and enjoy the journey.
