Cycling day trip from Yuen Long Kau Hui to Tai Po

This ride takes you from the historic heart of Yuen Long Kau Hui, once a lively market town in the New Territories, over to the green, riverside vibes of Tai Po. Covering about 22 km, it packs in some real variety: expect a mix of quiet rural roads and the occasional stretch of busier traffic, plus a few good climbs—the highest point hits nearly 400 meters!

The route offers a nice blend of scenery, with long stretches of urban countryside, fresh air, and glimpses of small villages. You’ll get a solid workout thanks to the rolling hills (about 550 meters of climbing!), but it’s balanced out by some breezy downhill runs towards Tai Po.

Finish up in Tai Po, known for its buzzing local markets and the relaxing Tolo Harbour Promenade—perfect for a post-ride snack or stroll. Make sure your bike is ready for mixed surfaces, though, since not all roads are paved. Happy riding!
