By bicycle from Mukō to Kyoto

Roll out from Mukō, a compact city west of Kyoto known for ancient Muko Shrine and easy access to the Katsura River. The route is a gentle 13.3 km with only about 46 m of climbing—basically flat—so it’s great for a relaxed spin.

You’ll mostly cruise on quiet neighborhood streets with a sprinkle of cycleway sections and almost no busy-road riding. Surfaces are predominantly paved/asphalt. Expect a couple of short pedestrian zones near local shopping streets—go slow and mind pedestrians.

If you fancy scenery, you can dip onto the Katsura River path for a stretch before threading into Kyoto on calm backstreets. Rolling into Kyoto, you’re on the doorstep of temples, machiya townhouses, and easy connections to the Kamo River bike paths if you want to keep exploring.

Tip: cafés and convenience stores are frequent along the way, and riverbank spots make good snack stops.
