By bicycle from Darlinghurst to Haymarket

Roll out from Darlinghurst, the lively inner-city hub known for Oxford Street, indie galleries, and terrace-lined streets perched on the ridge east of the CBD. Head west on separated cycleways through Surry Hills, then enjoy a gentle glide toward Haymarket. It’s a short spin—about 3.3 km—with nearly half the way on dedicated cycle paths and most of the rest on quiet backstreets. You’ll net more descent than climb, topping out around 65 m near Darlinghurst before rolling down into the city.

The surface is smooth and fast: mostly asphalt and other paved sections, with a brief bit of paving stones as you approach pedestrian areas around Chinatown. Keep an eye out for the light rail on George Street and heavier foot traffic near the markets.

Haymarket is the southern gateway to the CBD, home to Chinatown, Paddy’s Markets, and the Capitol Theatre—perfect for a post-ride bite or browse. Bike parking is easy to find around UTS and the market precinct.
