Cycling day trip from Tavira to Faro

This ride takes you from Tavira to Faro, weaving through the beautiful Algarve region. Starting in Tavira, a charming riverside town known for its Roman bridge and whitewashed houses, you’ll enjoy a mostly quiet, gentle pedal westward.

The route covers just under 50 km, so it’s perfect for a solid half-day ride. You’ll be pedaling over rolling terrain with a couple of hills (around 350 meters of ascent in total), but nothing too daunting. Most of the way is on peaceful country roads and tracks, passing through orange groves and the occasional sleepy village. The scenery shifts from traditional Algarve farmland to glimpses of the Ria Formosa lagoon as you approach the coast.

Surfaces vary—a mix of paved and unpaved stretches—so a gravel or hybrid bike is ideal. As you coast into Faro, you’ll finish at one of the Algarve’s liveliest cities, famous for its medieval old town and the beautiful marina. Perfect for a post-ride coffee or a cold drink by the harbor!
