Cycling day trip from Seville to Almadén de la Plata

Roll out from Seville’s historic center and easy cycleways, then slip north onto the Via de la Plata tracks. Grab a coffee in Santiponce (home to the Roman ruins of Itálica) before the tarmac fades to dehesa gravel through Guillena and Castilblanco de los Arroyos. From there it’s a steady, rolling climb into the Sierra Norte: cork oaks, wide views, and long, quiet tracks.

It’s about 93 km with roughly 1,100 m of ascent, and much of it is off‑road: expect plenty of gravel and farm tracks, occasional gates, and some dusty stretches. A gravel bike or sturdy tourer with 35–45 mm tires is ideal. Stock up on water and snacks in Guillena and Castilblanco; shade can be scarce.

Finish in Almadén de la Plata, a small, traditional town known for its mining roots (its name comes from “the mine”) and as a classic stop on the Camino Via de la Plata. Celebrate with tapas and a wander around the gateway to the Sierra Norte Natural Park.
