Cycling day trip from Fort William to Inverness

This is a classic Highland adventure! You’ll start out in Fort William, nestled at the foot of Ben Nevis (the UK’s highest mountain), and wind your way northeast to Inverness, the heart of the Highlands. Over 117 km, you’ll rack up a satisfying 1600+ meters of climbing. The journey has a bit of everything: you’ll ride a mix of paved roads, quiet lochside tracks, and long stretches of unpaved or gravel surfaces—so a gravel or sturdy touring bike is ideal.

You'll trace parts of the Great Glen, following the famous Caledonian Canal and passing iconic sights like Loch Ness (keep an eye out for Nessie!). Expect a mix of lush forest, wide-open glens, and the occasional castle ruin. Inverness awaits as a lively gateway to the north, with its riverside charm and castle views.
