Quick ride by bicycle from Bursledon to Hamble-le-Rice

This is a gentle and scenic little ride, starting in lovely Bursledon and winding your way down to the waterside village of Hamble-le-Rice. The route’s just under 7 km—perfect for an easy afternoon spin. You’ll mostly follow smooth cycleways and quiet roads, with barely any traffic to worry about.

Starting near the historic Bursledon Windmill (Hampshire’s only working windmill!), you'll roll through leafy suburban lanes and catch glimpses of the River Hamble glimmering alongside. There are a couple of gentle ups and downs (nothing too dramatic—less than 50 meters of elevation loss overall), before you descend towards Hamble.

Hamble-le-Rice is a sailor’s paradise, famous for its marinas and waterfront pubs. It's a great place to finish your ride—grab an ice cream by the water, or watch the boats come in. The ride is mostly on asphalt or paved paths, with a few stretches where the surface isn’t as well defined—so just keep an eye out if it’s been raining.
