Cycling day trip from Tiefencastel to Silvaplana

Set off on a stunning Swiss ride from Tiefencastel up to the alpine lake town of Silvaplana—this route is a serious treat for any cyclist craving mountain landscapes! Starting in the heart of Graubünden, Tiefencastel is a small village with a big railway history (you’re right on the famous Albula line), nestled at the meeting of the Albula and Julia rivers.

Over 65 kilometers, you’ll climb over 2,500 meters, spinning up some epic mountain roads (hello, Julier Pass—at over 2,300 m!) and taking in breathtaking views. Most of your route is on smooth, paved roads, but you’ll get a mix of gravel and quiet tracks to keep things interesting (and your legs guessing).

Finish at Silvaplana, where glorious mountain peaks meet glacial blue lakes—famous for windsurfing and postcard-perfect sunsets. This is true Engadin country, with both Swiss-Italian and Romansh flavors, and plenty of places to rest those well-earned legs. It’s a challenging ride, but you’ll be rewarded at every turn.
