Cycling day trip from Andermatt to Fiesch

Set out from the alpine village of Andermatt, a hub for hikers and riders at the foot of the Gotthard Pass, and head south towards Fiesch for a ride that truly captures the heart of the Swiss Alps. The route is just under 56 km, winding through high-alpine valleys and past dramatic mountain backdrops.

Expect a real mix under your wheels—about 40% of the route’s surface is unknown, but the rest is an adventurous combo of paved roads, gravel, and a bit of loose stuff. Around a third is on cycleways and another chunk on quiet backroads, so you’ll have plenty of moments to enjoy the view. You’ll climb about 500 meters—not too crazy but enough for a little workout—before dropping nearly 900 meters as you swoop down towards Fiesch.

Fiesch itself is famous as a gateway to the Aletsch Glacier (Switzerland’s longest!), so consider stopping to check out the UNESCO-listed ice field from the local cable car.
