Cycling day trip from Vila Praia de Âncora to Baiona

This scenic cycling route starts in Vila Praia de Âncora, a charming little seaside town on Portugal’s northern coast famous for its fishing heritage and beautiful beaches. You’ll roll out along mostly quiet roads and cycleways, with a mix of paved and some unpaved stretches—perfect for those who appreciate a bit of variety under their tires. There’s a gentle rhythm to the ride as you accumulate just over 670 meters of ascent (don’t worry, it’s pretty spread out), and you’ll rarely climb above 100 meters in elevation.

As you pedal north, you’ll cross into Spain, heading for the historic town of Baiona. Known as the first port in Europe to hear the news of Columbus discovering the Americas in 1493, Baiona is packed with history, charming old streets, and fantastic ocean views.
