Cycling day trip from Seia to Covilha

Get ready for a seriously epic adventure! This route takes you from Seia—a charming gateway to the Serra da Estrela mountains—over winding tracks and mostly quiet roads all the way to Covilhã. Covering about 63 km, it’s not for the faint of heart, with nearly 3,000 meters of ascent and sweeping descents, so be prepared for both stunning mountain views and some serious calf-burners.

You’ll be traveling mainly on tracks (with a bit of everything: asphalt, ground, and unpaved surfaces), so a sturdy bike and a sense of adventure are recommended. The maximum elevation tips over 1,400 meters, giving you panoramic vistas along the way.

Seia is famous for its rich mountain heritage and delicious “queijo da Serra” cheese. Once you roll into Covilhã, you’ll be greeted by a lively city known for its wool industry history and beautiful old streets climbing the hillsides.
