Quick ride by bicycle from Oegstgeest to Leiden

A quick, almost-flat spin from leafy Oegstgeest to historic Leiden. Roll out on the dedicated cycle paths and follow the signs for Leiden Centrum; most of the way is smooth paved surface with a few stretches of paving stones through quiet streets. You’ll skirt green parks and can choose to track the Oude Rijn for a scenic approach, or slip past the Leiden Bio Science Park toward Leiden Centraal.

Cross one of the bike-friendly bridges and you’re in Leiden’s canal belt. From here it’s an easy cruise to landmarks like the Rapenburg, windmill museum De Valk, and the Hortus Botanicus. Leiden is the Netherlands’ oldest university town (founded 1575) and Rembrandt’s birthplace, so cafés and culture are never far.

Distance is about 4.3 km with only a tiny rise and fall—perfect for a relaxed hop. If you’ve got time before you leave Oegstgeest, detour through the Oud Poelgeest estate; the 17th‑century manor and woodlands make a peaceful start to the ride.
