Cycling day trip from Gouda to Utrecht

This route takes you on a delightful 43 km ride from Gouda to Utrecht, mostly along smooth cycleways—perfect for a relaxing cruise through the Dutch countryside. You’ll start in Gouda, famed for its historic cheese market and charming canals. The ride is mostly flat (hardly any climbing at all!), making it friendly for all levels.

Along the way, you’ll pedal through classic polder landscapes, crossing quiet villages and neatly-kept farms. The surface is predominantly asphalt and paved cycle paths, so it’s easy rolling most of the way. As you approach Utrecht, keep an eye out for the city’s renowned Dom Tower poking above the skyline—a sure sign you're nearly there.

Once you arrive in Utrecht, enjoy wandering the lively center, with its unique canals and wharf cellars. Grab a coffee or treat yourself at one of the many cafes before heading back or catching a train (there’s good rail access at both ends!).
