Quick ride by bicycle from Den Burg to Den Helder

This ride kicks off in Den Burg, the lively heart of Texel island—think local markets, cozy cafes, and classic Dutch scenery. You’ll cruise mostly on smooth cycleways, and aside from a tiny handful of paving stones, this route is almost all fresh asphalt and well-paved tracks.

You’ll pedal south across the island with barely any hills (the max elevation is just 5 meters!), soaking in wide-open landscapes and maybe passing a few sheep. After a scenic stretch, you’ll board the ferry at ‘t Horntje (your only real “climb” is getting on and off the boat) and cross the Marsdiep to Den Helder.

Den Helder is a naval town with a cool maritime vibe—check out the naval museum or stroll the seafront after your ride. The whole journey is about 14 km and, thanks to those top-notch Texel cycleways, it'll be cruisy and car-free almost the whole way.
