Bikepacking from Innsbruck to Salzburg

This ride connects two of Austria’s best-loved cities: Innsbruck and Salzburg. Starting in Innsbruck, the “Capital of the Alps,” you’ll leave its pretty Baroque streets and mountain backdrop behind to head east towards Mozart’s hometown. The 211 km route is mostly on smooth surfaces (plenty of asphalt!), with gentle climbs and rewarding downhills. Expect a mix of quiet country roads, tracks, and some cycleways—so it’s easy to find your rhythm.

Along the way, prepare for a fair bit of up and down (about 1,500 meters of climbing), but nothing too extreme for regular cyclists. You’ll skirt rivers, cross green meadows, and pass through charming alpine villages—perfect excuses for a coffee break.

Finishing in Salzburg, your legs might be tired but your spirits will be high. In addition to its world-famous music scene and fairy-tale Old Town, Salzburg’s cafés and pastry shops will be calling your name.
