Cycling day trip from Timmendorfer Strand to Lübeck

This ride takes you from the vibrant beach town of Timmendorfer Strand down to the historic heart of Lübeck. Starting at the Baltic Sea, you'll roll out from soft sand and bustling cafes, leaving behind Timmendorfer’s famous pier and seaside vibe. The route is mostly paved and smooth—about three-quarters asphalt—though you’ll get a taste of adventure with a few gravel sections and the occasional stretch of charming paving stones.

Expect a relaxed ride through the northern German countryside, with small ups and downs (never higher than 27 meters), passing fields and villages at an easy pace. You’ll follow bike paths and quiet roads for much of the way, so traffic won’t be a concern.

Approaching Lübeck, you’ll see the spires rise—this UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its medieval old town, brick Gothic architecture, and, of course, marzipan. At about 20 kilometers, it’s a perfect ride for a morning or lazy afternoon, with plenty of time left for a harbor stroll and coffee in Lübeck’s beautiful Altstadt.
