Cycling day trip from Stade to Buxtehude

This ride takes you from the historic town of Stade to charming Buxtehude—two gems in Lower Saxony not far from Hamburg. Starting in Stade, you’ll roll out from a city known for its half-timbered houses, quiet canals, and Hanseatic flair. The route itself is an easygoing 23 km, mostly on paved surfaces and peaceful paths, making it perfect for a relaxed day in the saddle.

You’ll wind your way through the picturesque Altes Land, one of Europe’s largest fruit-growing regions—so in spring, you’ll be treated to orchards in full bloom! After about two hours of pedaling (give or take, depending on your pace and snack stops), you’ll reach Buxtehude, a town known for folklore and half-timbered charm. Legend says the famous “Hare and Hedgehog” race took place here!
