Quick ride by bicycle from Sassnitz to Sagard

Roll out from the harbor town of Sassnitz, famous for its chalk cliffs in Jasmund National Park and the quirky HMS Otus submarine museum. You’ll climb gently out of town into beech woods and open fields, with a couple of short ups (about 175 m total ascent) but nothing too spicy.

The route is around 16.4 km and mostly on car-free paths and quiet roads, with about 94% paved surface—perfect for touring or gravel bikes. Expect a peaceful, green ride with the occasional glimpse toward the Baltic and plenty of bird song in the trees.

You’ll finish in Sagard, one of Rügen’s older villages. Check out the historic Michaeliskirche and the Brunnenaue spa park, a nod to its 18th‑century spa past. There’s also a train station here if you’re linking rides or heading back without pedaling.

Tip: If you’ve got time before leaving Sassnitz, a quick detour toward the Königsstuhl viewpoint is classic Rügen.
