By bicycle from Pirna to Heidenau

This easygoing ride takes you from Pirna to Heidenau—two charming towns nestled along the Elbe River just southeast of Dresden. Starting in Pirna, known for its historic old town and beautiful Renaissance architecture, you’ll roll mostly along smooth cycleways (about 63%), with almost all of the route paved and super bike-friendly.

You’ll head northwest, staying close to the river and soaking in classic Saxon landscape views—think green meadows, sleepy riverside villages, and the distant hills of Saxon Switzerland. The path is remarkably flat (just about 18 meters of ascent), so it’s a breeze for cyclists of all levels.

Most of the ride is on dedicated bike lanes or quiet roads, so you can just relax and enjoy the scenery as you pedal.
