Cycling day trip from Ingolstadt to Essing

This scenic ride starts in the lively city of Ingolstadt, known for its beautiful old town and its ties to the car industry (Audi fans, take note!). You’ll roll north out of the city, trading urban hustle for the tranquil open countryside. Most of your ride is on quiet paths and smooth cycleways, with just a few stretches of gravel and unpaved sections to keep things interesting. While you’ll get your heart pumping with about 400 meters of climbing, it’s all manageable and rewards you with lovely vistas.

As you approach Essing, the route winds through lush river valleys and rocky outcrops—this area is famous for dramatic Jura limestone cliffs and the iconic wooden Tatzelwurm bridge. Essing itself is a postcard-perfect village perched above the Altmühl river, with half-timbered houses and excellent spots for a well-deserved drink by the water.
