Cycling day trip from Hitzacker to Wittenberge

This scenic 65 km ride takes you from Hitzacker, a charming riverside town on the Elbe known for its historic timber-framed houses and small island old town, all the way to Wittenberge, a hub of railway history on the river’s western shore.

Leaving the cobbled lanes and half-timbered flair of Hitzacker behind, you’ll pedal mostly on quiet roads and winding paths through the gentle Elbe valley. The ride features a relaxed ascent and descent—nothing too steep, so it’s a pleasant spin for most levels. Around half the journey is on paved or asphalt surfaces, but be ready for some gravel and segments where the surface is a bit of a mystery (explorer points for you!).

After about 4–5 hours, depending on your pace, you’ll roll into Wittenberge. Here you can explore the old train station, striking water tower, and the Elbe waterfront.
