Cycling day trip from Hitzacker to Lauenburg

This scenic cycling route takes you from the charming town of Hitzacker, nestled on the banks of the Elbe, all the way up to Lauenburg, another treasure along the river. Hitzacker is known for its beautiful half-timbered houses and wine culture—definitely worth a wander before you roll out.

Over 60 kilometers, you’ll mostly be gliding along paved paths (with a nice mix of mellow concrete and asphalt), following quiet tracks and back roads, so traffic stress is minimal. The terrain is gentle, with only a few mild climbs and a max elevation just above 60 meters, making it great for an easygoing tour.

As you approach Lauenburg, you’ll notice the riverside vibe continue. The town boasts a historic old town and a pretty riverside promenade—perfect spots to relax after your ride.

Plan for a leisurely 4–5 hours in the saddle and maybe a little more for stops and scenery. Pack a snack, bring your camera, and enjoy the peaceful, green landscapes of northern Germany!
