Cycling day trip from Hinterzarten to Kirchzarten

This scenic ride takes you from the charming mountain village of Hinterzarten, famous for its winter sports and beautiful Black Forest setting, to the lively town of Kirchzarten, a gateway to outdoor adventures in the Dreisamtal valley.

You’ll set off amid the high meadows and forests of Hinterzarten, gradually climbing to around 1,089 meters—the highest point of your route. Get ready for some serious descending! With over 1,300 meters of descent, you’ll enjoy flowing paved roads and tranquil stretches through classic Schwarzwald scenery. Around 82% of the route is on smooth pavement, but watch out for a few gravel patches that add a little character.

You’ll mostly be pedaling on quiet roads and winding forest paths, far from traffic and noise. It’s a fantastic way to experience the dramatic ups and downs of the southern Black Forest. Kirchzarten, your destination, is a welcoming town just east of Freiburg and is known for its cycling-friendly vibe and picturesque old town—a perfect spot to unwind after your ride.
