By bicycle from Altona to Winterhude

This ride takes you from Altona, one of Hamburg’s trendiest districts, up to the leafy neighborhood of Winterhude. Starting in Altona, you’ll pedal through streets lined with old townhouses and hip cafés—this area’s got a lively vibe but isn’t too hectic on a bike.

You’ll spend most of your time on quiet roads with smooth asphalt, so it’s ideal for a relaxed cruise or your daily commute. Along the way, keep an eye out for bits of cobblestone and sections with paving stones—classic Hamburg! The route is pretty flat, so it’s beginner-friendly, with just enough ups and downs to keep things interesting.

As you reach Winterhude, you’ll notice things get greener, with lots of canal-side paths and parks (maybe even make a detour to Stadtpark). At 11.7 km, the ride shouldn’t take much more than an hour at a chilled pace. Both ends of this route have a ton to offer—snag a coffee at the start, and end with a stroll around Winterhude’s tranquil canals.
