Quick ride by bicycle from Füssen to Roßhaupten

Roll out from Füssen’s charming old town on the Lech and head north toward the shores of the Forggensee. The route keeps you off busy roads most of the way: think a relaxed mix of quiet roads and lakeside paths, with a brief farm track section. It’s mostly smooth going (about 86% paved) with a touch of gravel, so any touring or gravel bike is perfect. Expect gentle rollers rather than big climbs—around 130 m of ascent, topping out near 823 m—while the Allgäu Alps linger in your rearview.

As you approach Roßhaupten, the views open over the Forggensee and the Lech dam. In summer the reservoir is brimming with sailboats; in winter it’s drawn down, revealing riverbeds and shoreline you don’t see the rest of the year. Füssen is the gateway to Neuschwanstein and has a handsome medieval core; Roßhaupten is a laid‑back lakeside village that’s great for a coffee stop.
