Cycling day trip from Freudenstadt to Ettlingen

This scenic ride starts in Freudenstadt, a charming town famed for having one of Germany’s largest market squares and as a gateway to the Black Forest. You’ll head north, gradually leaving the bustling square behind, and wind your way through the heart of the Schwarzwald.

The route covers about 76 km and is pretty hilly, so get ready for over 1,200 meters of climbing (but with an even more generous 1,800 meters of descent!). Expect mostly paved surfaces, including plenty of quiet forest roads and tracks, with a sprinkle of gravel here and there—nothing too rough, just enough for some variety.

You'll finish in Ettlingen, a beautiful town just south of Karlsruhe. Ettlingen is known for its baroque old town, laid-back river views, and inviting cafés, so reward yourself with a stroll through its cobbled streets. This route is perfect for those who love forested climbs, long descents, and a solid dose of Black Forest magic!
