Quick ride by bicycle from Alfter to Wachtberg

This scenic cycling route takes you from the charming town of Alfter, just west of Bonn, down to the peaceful hills of Wachtberg. Covering around 17.5 km and rolling through the countryside, it’s a nice ride with a mix of gentle climbs (so be ready for around 240 meters of ascent!) and smooth descents.

Most of the route is on paved paths and quiet roads—perfect for a relaxed ride while soaking in the rural scenery. Expect a good blend of asphalt and some paving stones, plus a little bit of gravel to keep things interesting.

Starting in Alfter, known for its picturesque château and university, you’ll wind your way south, passing fields and small villages, before reaching Wachtberg, famous for its volcanic hills (“Wachtberger Vulkanexpress,” anyone?) and lovely walking trails. It’s a great way to explore the area’s Green Belt and get a breath of fresh air away from city life. Don’t forget to pack some snacks—there’s lots of spots for a scenic break!
