Bikepacking from Valence to Avignon

Get ready for a beautiful ride through the heart of the Rhône Valley! This route starts in Valence, a lively city on the banks of the Rhône River known as the “Gateway to the South of France,” and rolls all the way to the historic city of Avignon. You’ll cover about 155 km, mostly on paved surfaces and cycleways, so it’s a relaxed day out for touring bikes and roadies.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy gentle scenery—vineyards, fields, and pretty villages dotting your journey south. The route is fairly mild in terms of hills, with a little over 400 meters of ascent, so nothing too thigh-burning. As you approach Avignon, keep an eye out for the iconic ramparts—this city is famous for its medieval bridge (Pont d’Avignon) and the grand Palais des Papes.
